Part Five: Trust Your Own Voice

The Move Out!

Tena you are being prompted to trust your own voice as you move through this transition: keep expressing what matters, stay open to what’s next, and take the next step with confidence.

Boy did I need to hear that. That’s what an angel number revealed as I was pondering this blog and my next steps. Timely. Poignant.

MY GOOGLE REVIEW!

(*Reviews are what I do 😆 when I receive poor customer service & quality)

Title: Poor communications, delays, and unexpected charges!

I selected Brooks Moving and Hauling over several larger companies because they presented themselves as veteran-owned. As a veteran with more than 20 years of service, supporting a veteran-owned business was important to me.

I scheduled the company for 9:00 a.m. on September 28, 2026, to pack my condo. Around 9:30–10:00 a.m., I received messages changing the appointment to noon, then 1:00 p.m. The movers finally arrived at 2:00 p.m.

I contracted for two movers at $149, but three arrived and presented a $199 rate. After approximately 30 minutes of back-and-forth with the office, the company approved the original rate. I was also not informed beforehand about the $50-per-TV box fee or the $150 transportation fee. Although I sent photos of every room, the necessary supplies were not brought.

The movers did not leave West Palm Beach until approximately 5:00 p.m., encountered traffic, and initially went to the wrong storage facility despite having the correct address. I was ultimately charged almost $700 in addition to my $150 deposit—approximately $850 total—for a two-bedroom condo (minus living room furniture) and several boxes.

The company was very communicative and accommodating during the booking process, but that changed once the job began. The delays, unexpected fees, and poor communication made an already stressful move even more frustrating.

I had to remind myself: things don’t always happen the way we want them to. The moving delay didn’t stop the cleaning the next day or interfere with closing. In fact, closing moved up a day because everyone was ready.

The buyer’s walk-through happened the evening of September 29. The next morning, September 30, a notary came to my daughter’s home, where I signed the documents. It was simple. Before midnight, my disbursement check was in the bank.

Just like that, the sale was done.

I’m still on the bridge—on my daughter’s sofa—but I’ve decided to take a quick solo cruise. I think my daughter and grandson deserve a little break from having me on the couch, and I could use some time to clear my head. I’ve never cruised by myself before, so this will be interesting!

I chose the most affordable option I could find at the time: Carnival. We’ll hang out in the Bahamas and visit Celebration Key, Carnival’s new destination. I’m excited to see it.

When I return, I’ll have a few days before heading to Puerto Rico to celebrate my 65th birthday with my best friend, who’s turning 60. We’ve been friends for about 30 amazing years. That’s something worth celebrating.

So far, things are moving along. There have been no major surprises—just a late moving company and a reminder that a difficult day doesn’t have to derail the next step.

After Puerto Rico, my plan is to travel to Virginia and do some couch surfing while I find my place. I feel it coming. I already know what it looks like, and I can’t wait for the day I walk through that front door.

I don’t have the whole map yet. I have the next right step—and I’m taking it.
