Day 14 – Black History Month – How Enslaved Africans Influenced American Diet

The attached article is worth the read. Very Informative! As a novice or neophyte author, I couldn’t do it the justice it deserves. Lots of little known black history/facts herein. Please read on…it’ll make ya mouth water.

Here’s a snippet: They brought the kola nut – one of the main parts of Coca-Cola – to what is now the United States. West Africans chewed the nut for its caffeine. Enslaved Africans also brought watermelon, okra, yams, black-eyed peas and some peppers. These foods are commonly eaten in the U.S. today.
